Small creatures of Arvoredo Island

The Arvoredo Island is one of the premier dive sites of the Brazilian south coast. The island is about 11km off the coast of Santa Catarina.  There are dive operations in the towns of Florianópolis and Bombinhas. Now almost 90% of the island dive sites are inside a marine reserve and diving is prohibited. The dive community is trying to transform the reserve into a marine national park, but still had no success in the efforts. Only a small part of the southwest of the island is outside the limits of the reserve and thus is open for diving. There the main attractions are the small creatures. One can find a great variety of nudibranchs, small fishes, crustaceans, corals and much more. Some of then are endemic to Brazil, like the hard to spot Paraclinus spectator. Many of the dive sites are a delight to photographers, offering a great variety of creatures in shallow and protected waters. Arvoredo has more than 200 fish species and is considered the southern limit of the habitat of a small number of tropical fish.
If you are diving from Florianópolis I can recommend Parcel as a dive operator.
